MEETING MINUTES

Current Business

Christen reported on the following items:

Saturday in the Park Update: Christen spoke with Tim Webber with the recreation district and got permission for us to use the baseball fields by the recreation center for the shelter dogs to get out and run or for adoption events. Discussed with Laycie about how many dogs at a time could get out and the man power it would take. For now overall it would be a good idea to get the dogs out there without the public just to give them space and time to run and get acclimated to the location. Shelter is about to lose over half of their shelter technicians as they are graduating. Laycie also mentioned she recently had a title change and is now considered a community service officer so they have a lot more responsibility other than the shelter and definitely need assistance. There are current open positions with the town for shelter tech roles. Laycie also mentioned that they received an extension from PACFA to get up to code as they are getting new floors put in at the shelter. Also mentioned new town manager has taken over, and hopefully will be able to learn more about the shelter. The 4R animals board is also wanting to set up a meeting with him to get a relationship established. It was also mentioned that Katelyn C. is back also as a community service officer which does help, but only at part time hours, so volunteers are needed for the shelter.

Haley reported on the following items:

March Donations to the shelter from 4R Animals:

In march we collected around $220.00 and completed a $220.00 amazon order for the shelter that included lots of collars, treats, and other supplies.

Donations from outside companies: So far, our group has received multiple donations from local companies that we can use at events as give-a-ways to encourage donations. These companies that have donated include: Tickets from Glenwood caverns adventure park, Vaudeville Review Tickets in Glenwood, Massage Envy GC in Grand Junction, Grand River Vineyards GC Grand Junction, The Valley Steakhouse in Vernal. Current goal is to get 3 more donations so we can have 2 give-a-ways at each of our events this year.

May Marketing Plan: Marketing strategy is to continue from April as it is a spring time theme. We are working to create a generic 4R Animals permanent marketing so we are not constantly changing out posters. However, monthly we will continue with updating online marketing campaigns as well as the donation jars (as those feature current shelter animals). Don mentioned trying to get a banner on main street in town in the future to give a message that would always be in front of people. The cost of something like this could be costly, and we may look into this in the future when we are talking more about capital grants and are on the realistic road to a new shelter being built.

Open Discussion

Talked about following back up with companies to sponsor adoptions, we did receive a donation from Utah Gas for adoptions so far, but should follow back up with others. We also did receive the check for the spa/neuter grant which is now in place. Now that 4R Animals can cover spay and neuter, the question came up if we could possibly lower adoption fees since that cost would be covered by this grant. 4R Animals board will ask new town manager about this, even if we could run specials for adoption events to help push out that information to the public. Also brought up possibly having Laycie reach out to CARE or other places to take an animal or two since they are close to capacity.

No further business. Meeting adjourned at 7:20 p.m.
